Immerse yourself in the reflections of Barbados' rich history and its uniquely vibrant culture. This captivating tour takes you along the beautiful west coast of Barbados with its blinding white sands and crystal blue waters, on to Holetown where the first settlers landed in 1627 and then onto Speightstown where we will make our first stop at the Arlington Musem. This fascinating and interactive museum will let you experience our history and takes you on a journey through time to the very beginning of Barbados! Our next stop is at the Gun Hill Signal
Station -once a key link in the chain of communications
in Barbados. The signal station has been beautifully restored and converted
into a small museum. Even the original cookhouse has been
carefully restored and makes you feel like you have truly stepped back in time. The views from the signal station of
the south and southwest countryside are exceptional!
Just
below the signal station you will find the famous lion, carved
out of a single piece of rock by Captain Henry Wilkinson
in 1868. The lion has its paw resting upon an orb and it
is intended to represent the might of the British lion throughout
the world at that time.
The journey then continues towards the stunning South Coast of the island, past the popular fishing village of Oistins and breathtaking beaches along the way towards the World Heritage site of The Garrison Savannah where you will see numerous historic buildings providing an outstanding example of British Colonial Architecture from the 17th Century as well as George Washington House and collection of cannon surrounding the Savannah - it truly is a 'blast from the past'! |
